Surrender your unwanted vehicle FREE!!! Medway Council recently introduced a new scheme to help owners of unwanted vehicles get rid of them properly rather than abandoning them. It is proving to be very popular and effective. The Unwanted Vehicle Surrender Scheme helps Medway residents conform to new legislation that was introduced in February 2004. The service ensures that all vehicles collected by the council’s licenced contractor are processed so that: -
The new scheme is free . Medway council’s vehicle surrender scheme means that streets will have less vehicles abandoned in the future and the council will notify the DVLA through an electronic link that the vehicle has been destroyed. It also ensures that from the time it is collected you will not be responsible for that vehicle.
A new law means that all vehicle owners have to ensure their vehicle is continuously registered or, if the vehicle is not on the road, that it has a statutory off-road notice. Failure to comply with this requirement can mean an automatic fine of up to £1,000.
Getting the council to dispose of your vehicle means that you will not receive parking tickets, a speeding fine or a prosecution for abandoning that vehicle after handing it over to us. To take part in the council’s scheme please phone customer services on 01634 333333. You will then be contacted by the council’s contractor who will remove the vehicle, providing it is not full of rubbish. The scheme will handle cars, small vans (up to a gross weight of 7.5 tonnes) and motorbikes. On collection you will need to provide positive identification (photo licence, passport or utility bill) of the person transferring the car and the logbook and keys.
By using this scheme you can help make Medway a more environmentally friendly place to live. |
