Medway Council Garden Waste Collections

The Council provides most households in Medway with a Brown Wheelie Bin for recycling of garden waste. This bin is emptied every second week by Cleanaway who provide the household waste collection service in Medway.

The material collected from the Brown Bins is composted to make a valuable soil conditioner. The material collected from Cuxton and Halling is composted on Luddesdown Organic Farm and used by the farm to fertilise their crops. The remainder is composted in huge piles at Rainham Marshes, Essex and is available for purchase at Medway's three Household Recycling Centres.

Composting garden waste and adding the compost to the soil puts valuable carbon back into the soil. This helps to reduce the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and therefore helps to reduce global climate change. Home composting would save additional carbon dioxide from the lorry required to transport the material. Find out why and how to home compost here.

The box on the right shows the materials that can be recycled in the Brown Wheelie Bins. This list is growing so keep checking here to get the latest information.

The Brown Wheelie Bins are collected on the same day as the household waste but only every second week. To check which week your Blue Box will be collected click here.
